Food and wine tour Romania - 5 days

Welcome to Bucharest

Before exploring and tasting Romania, meet first its capital and the largest city in the country: Bucharest. Your guide will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel.

You can spend the afternoon getting some rest at your hotel. You will have free time for dinner.

Or as soon as you arrive, you can take a walk through the old city centre and maybe enjoy a first wine tasting in Bucharest – we know a good bar for that to recommend you!

Accommodation: Hotel in Bucharest

Day 1

Traditional food in Bucharest

On the second day in Romania, you will taste the traditional food in Bucharest and you will visit some of the attractions in the city.

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, it’s time to enjoy a panoramic tour of the city. Your guide will show you from the car the main landmarks in the Romanian capital, telling you their history. If you want to stop by, just tell him and he will find a suitable place for you to take great pictures.

The first important stop on your route will be at the Village Museum in Bucharest. Inside you can see traditional houses from various parts of the country and you can discover local traditions and objects. The Village Museum is an open-air museum, so a walk here is sure to whet your appetite.

At lunch you will go to a traditional restaurant in Bucharest, where you can try Romanian dishes and desserts: sarmale, mici, polenta with cheese and of course, do not forget the papanasi for dessert!

After such a meal you can’t help but feel full, so a walk is welcome. On a guided walking tour, you will discover the main sights of the old town.

At dinner, you will go to another Romanian restaurant and you can continue with a wine tasting session at one of the wine bars in Bucharest.

Day 2

Castles and sparkling wine tasting in Romania

Leave Bucharest behind because today you will move to one of the most famous provinces in Romania: Transylvania.

After a journey of about 2 hours, you will stop in Sinaia to visit the beautiful Peles Castle. Built at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, in a dream landscape, the castle was the summer residence of the Romanian royal family. After a tour inside, you will discover why it is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.

At lunch, you will stop at another Azuga mountain resort, at one of the few sparkling wine cellars in Romania. Here you will enjoy a hearty lunch and a wine tasting session. Dealu Mare is the region from which the grapes used for the production of sparkling wine are harvested.

In the afternoon, you will visit another famous castle: Bran Castle. Known for his connection to the bloodthirsty vampire, Count Dracula, Bran Castle attracts a large number of visitors each year. A guided tour inside will reveal the true history of the castle and the legends that circulate around it.

In the evening you will arrive in Brasov, a beautiful medieval city located at the foot of the mountains. For dinner, the guide will take you to one of the traditional restaurants in Brasov where you can try other Romanian dishes: jumari, sour soups and delicious desserts.

Accommodation: hotel in Brasov

Day 3

Romania wineries in Dealu Mare

I think almost all the Romania wine trips include a visit to the wineries in Dealu Mare, one of the best wine regions in Romania.

After breakfast, it’s time to hit the road again. Your first stop from Brasov to Bucharest will be in Slanic Prahova where you will visit the largest salt mine in Southeast Europe: Unirea salt mine. An underground descent will take your breath away when you see what is hidden under the ground.

Then you will go on to the wine region that produces the well-known Romanian red wine Feteasca Neagra. Although Feteasca neagra is produced in several areas of Romania, in Dealu Mare you will have the opportunity to taste it leisurely.

A stop at the Lacerta winery will allow you to try also a Romanian white wine next to which you will serve a plate of cheese.

Your wine tour in Romania will end where it started: in Bucharest, where the guide will drop you off at the hotel.

Accommodation: Hotel in Bucharest

If you have only a day available, book our Lacerta winery, Bellu manor and the Thracian Necropolis day trip from Bucharest and visit the Dealu Mare region.

Day 4

Private transfer to the airport

Unfortunately, every delicious experience has an end. Today is the end of your wine tour in Romania. You could try some of the well-known Romanian wines and get an idea about Romanian food. Now is the time to pack. Your guide will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight back home.
